“But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.”
1 Thessalonians 5:1-6
Can you feel it? Are you sensing deep within that the season is changing and soon God will interrupt our lives?
NOW IS THE TIME
The apostle Paul gives us an exciting key to the Last Days scenario by telling us it will happen when the world is preoccupied with the matters at hand. Can anyone say this is not true of the time we live in?
READY AND WAITING
What an encouragement this passage is to the believer! With each passing day, there is a universal quickening of awareness among Jesus’ followers that the glorious day of His coming for His Church is at hand. We will not be in the dark concerning His appearance. We will not be surprised when the trumpet blast sounds. Those looking for Him will see Him, and in the twinkling of an eye will be changed.
NOT IDLE Believers aren’t called to sit idly in the pews of the church awaiting that great day. We should never be so fixated on heaven to the point of neglecting those headed straight for a hellish eternity. The promise of the soon appearance of Jesus Christ should be a catalyst that energizes us to evangelize the world by whatever means possible. We who enjoy fellowship with Christ through the power of the Gospel at work in our lives will be fully alert to the signs pointing to the end. Have you readied yourself and others for the coming change? I pray so. May Jesus come today!
Awaiting His Return,
